Under Armour Fat Tire Sandals Review

I’ve only had these sandals for a year so I’ll probably update this review/blog post in the future to see if anything has changed my opinions about them.

Update 3/8/19 – Still using these things and they rock.

So far however these sandals have been everything I wanted them to be. They are rugged enough to be taken out on an easy to moderate trail, but also comfortable enough to enjoy the scenery rather than thinking about how much pain you are in.

Michelin Outsole

Lets first talk about the the Michelin outsole that provides all the grip as you hike around. As you have noticed from the video, the “Fat Tire” concept kind of shows the tread going up and around a little bit on the sides of the sandals.

While you are hiking you actually push those sides into the ground kind of like you would take air out of a tire to go off-roading.  This provides a larger footprint for more traction as well as a sort of snowshoe approach towards hiking.

And no, I don’t recommend actually taking these out in the snow…although I suppose I have in Yosemite (image below). Here is a video link of that adventure up to Glacier Point in Yosemite.

FOUND ON AMAZON

While I am writing this review, I see Under Armour is only supplying these sandals in size Men’s 13 and 14. I am not sure if that is because they didn’t do well in sales, or did so great that they are currently sold out of the other sizes until they can make more. I’ll provide the amazon link at the bottom of the review just in case you are one of those sizes or they increased their inventory.

GO TO SANDALS

As I mentioned in the video, these are also now my go-to kayaking footwear (Here is a link to a post/video where I used these sandals while kayaking). I used to own those water shoes where you slip your toes into individual little pockets and that supposedly provided more grip. I honestly just never thought those things were comfortable and really do prefer sandals when kayaking. These sandals are easily adjustable in 3 different spots so I haven’t had any issues of them sliding around while I am hiking, kayaking, or even whilst walking through a creek.

These sandals have not taken over my primary footwear for hikes, although I do utilize them practically every single day when the temperatures are warm enough in the northeast. Otherwise I still use my Danner Crater Rim Boots in the colder temperatures and my Cascade Brooks for all the scenarios in between (I’m sure I’ll do a review on the CBs eventually).

If you have any more questions on these sandals, feel free to leave them in the comments below. Again, I am not getting paid by Under Armour to review these sandals, just figured people wanted some good honest reviews. If I do ever get paid for a promotion of any kind, I’ll be sure to let you know.

Here is a link to the sandals if you are interested in purchasing them for yourself.
