Before you install your electronic brake controller on your vehicle, you will want to make sure it is set up properly. My 2014 Nissan Frontier required some more components to be installed in front of the front passenger seat. This will all depend on your particular tow vehicle so make sure you do the research.
If your vehicle has a tow package installed, it is possible that this sort of setup is already installed. The truck I bought wasn’t pre-installed with a hitch, but it did have an area to install the brake controller wiring for the brake controller itself. This particular set of wiring is so the computer sends the correct signal back to your hitch wiring for turn signals, braking lights, etc.
On some of the bigger trucks for example F250/F350s it is possible that they already have a brake controller built into the truck via the factory. Just another thing you will want to confirm before attempting to haul anything behind your vehicle.
This is a VERY important item to research before you get ahead of yourself towing a trailer. Take your time and make sure you have all your ducks in a row before you purchase a trailer. If you are buying a trailer from a dealer they should be able to help inform you on what you have and what you need. However just like many car dealers, they will probably just try to sell you something…so come prepared with your own research.
In order to install my wiring, I had to use this tool to unfasten the plastic covering underneath the dash. Here is a video tutorial how to install via etrailer (I use these guys a bunch when working on the truck).
If you have a Nissan Frontier from 2005-2017 (as of this post these models should be compatible) and want to purchase this wiring, click the link below.
