Well, we survived the trip to the second campground we’ve been to in our new travel trailer. I still get a little white knuckled while driving through rush hour traffic on the east coast as people swerve in and out of traffic. It is kind of ironic that I have to get really stressed hauling the trailer around to get to a place I can relax for the weekend in nature. I am slowly learning however and getting more and more confidence in my “hauling skills.”
We chose this particular campground because we wanted somewhere further away from our rental house, but still able to get there without having to use a vacation day with work. So that meant, as I said above, driving through rush hour traffic to get to our destination. The most disappointing part about Connecticut campgrounds is that all the state parks don’t seem to allow dogs into their campgrounds. You can take your dogs on hikes (if leashed) in most of the state parks, just not into the campgrounds themselves. So although it is nice getting all the amenities with the more expensive private campgrounds, it still isn’t really our cup of tea. Well, that and we haven’t really used the amenities that jack up the prices on the private campgrounds.
One of the great things about White Pines Campground in northern Connecticut is its location. It may not have a bunch of hiking trails within walking distance of the campground itself, but it is surrounded by nearby state forests and state parks. When we were researching a place to head out to for a weekend, this was a major selling point for us. In order to have an adventure vlog, well, we need to have some interesting adventures. Being weekend warriors (for now) we usually are limited to what we can drive to nearby, but the travel trailer is giving us a nice cozy home base to come home to at night.
As I mentioned in the video, this park mostly contains shaded wooded areas (depending on the time of year), but there are some open areas if you enjoy full sunlight. I can see the advantage of open sun areas if you didn’t have hookups and wanted to use your solar, but otherwise I think I would rather be in the shade at this park.
Although I didn’t actually shoot any hoops while I was at the campground, I was happy to see a park that had a basketball court. Being from Indiana, playing basketball was a must to keep yourself busy when living in the country. I guess I should add a basketball to one of my items to take with me next time we get the travel trailer out.
I think my favorite part about this campground was the spacing between sites. I walked around the entire campground and most of the sites were spaced out very well giving you a bit of privacy. Even being right next to an “intersection” within the campground, it never seemed too noisy with car traffic or loud neighbors. We were very happy with our stay at White Pines Campground and if anyone is willing to pay the money, I would recommend it.
