Hiking Southford Falls State Park in Connecticut
Southford Falls State Park features one of the coolest waterfall we have seen in Connecticut thus far! Once you enter the park you can see a beautiful pond surrounded by well groomed picnicking areas.
As soon as we hopped out of the truck we saw a father and his son fishing in the pond. I can’t say whether or not its a great place to fish or not, but we probably saw a total of 4-5 different people fishing there while hiking near the falls.
SWEET FALLS!
Deanna brought her really nice camera (Nikon D5100) and took some amazing pictures of this park. In order to get them on the website I had to resize them quite a bit, but they are still beautiful. Maybe some time in the feature we will open a page or a new website where you can order some prints of her photos. She definitely has a talent for photos and I am always impressed how artistic she can be.
FISH OR JUST CHILL
After we got done checking out the impressive cascading falls near the parking lot, we decided to make a trip on the main hiking trail loop. The first stop on that loop was a covered bridge constructed in the 1970s.
COVERED BRIDGE
On the fairly warm/humid day, this was a nice change of pace while sitting in the shade and cooler temps radiating from the water. We initially headed to this park really just to check out what waterfalls Connecticut had to offer, but after seeing this covered bridge we wondered what else it had hidden up its sleeves.
BEAUTIFUL HIKING TRAILS
Below is the (blue highlighted) path we decided to take while hiking through Southford Falls State Park. We definitely wanted to check out the fire tower to see if we could find any other views of the surrounding area.
Unfortunately in the Spring/Summer time, there isn’t a whole lot to see at the top of the fire tower due to the leaves. I’m sure during the late Fall and Winter time you would be able to see much further around the surrounding area.
We hope you get the opportunity to check out this park yourself. It is definitely a neat place to go to if you want to see some fantastic waterfalls with very little effort to reach them.
