On this day we decided to take the blue trail which pretty much borders the entire Macedonia Brook State Park. It started off really well and we were enjoying our hike. It was an unusually warm day in early Spring with a high of 80 degrees but we just figured that would be a great opportunity for us to get out and explore.
However, we didn’t do enough research and after we reached the top of the mountain on the west side of the park, our greyhound Blaze started showing signs of heatstroke. We struggled to get him down the mountain but we were able to get him to a wide enough path to get the truck down and pick up the poor guy. We immediately rushed him to the nearest emergency vet, which was not easy to find on a Sunday.
The nearest emergency vet was actually in New York about 45 minutes to an hour away. The good news is that we got him there just in time so they could treat him properly. I can’t say this enough, if you have a dog make sure you research the different signs of heatstroke. If we had just taken him home that evening he may not have made it from what we were told.
So glad Blaze is a strong dog and has made a full recovery. He is back to his goofy dog self and we are being extra careful on those warmer days. Take a look at the video if you want to hear more details.
Adventure On!
