Hiking Clarksburg State Park in Massachusetts
Thanks for stopping by and checking out our latest adventure to Clarksburg State Park located in Northwest Massachusetts. Although we weren’t able to document as much of this park as we would have liked due to timing, we still got a decent little sampling for you all.
TWO PARKS, ONE DAY
We actually just hiked around Natural Bridge State Park and explored around Mount Greylock all in the same day before visiting Clarksburg State Park. So we were a bit tuckered out on top of it arriving to the park late, but we still wanted to check this place out since it was so close. We definitely do not regret hitting this park up.
SOME PARKING LOTS CLOSED
Entering the park we immediately noticed that the gates allowing you to drive closer to some of the trails and other parking lots were closed off. Apparently we missed the cutoff date for the season on October 31st, but they still allow you to park near the park office and go for a stroll.
–> CLARKSBURG STATE PARK TRAIL MAP <–
With our limited amount of time, we figured we would be able to just take the trail around the pond. After only 10-15 minutes into the hike we came across some hikers that told us it took them an hour and a half to get all the way around the pond trail.
So after reevaluating the map we noticed the trail did take quite the leap to the west rather than following closely around the edge of the pond as I had originally thought. If this was the first park of the day we would have just went for it of course, but decided we didn’t want to hike around in the dark in unfamiliar territory.
LOOKOUT POINT AND BEACH
After making it to the lookout point shown on the map, we decided to take the road back around the park through the campground (closed during the winter) and head back towards the sandy beach area. Honestly even walking along the road with all the fall foliage around us was a very rewarding experience.
It was a fairly cloudy and cool day, but with those clouds came cool time-lapses and beautiful rays of sunshine highlighting the different shades of colors in the woods. If you all haven’t been to the northeast during fall foliage you are missing out.
WINDY AND SANDY NOT A GOOD MIX
Once we got to the beach area the wind was really starting to pick up quite a bit. Northwest Massachusetts is a fairly mountainous area, but right around this state park with the pond in front of us, there wasn’t really a whole lot blocking the breeze.
We stuck it out for a while in our light jackets to get a short time-lapse and admire the view…but then we pretty much called it a day after that. A nice warm beverage with dinner was calling us.
