Hiking Breakneck Ridge in the Hudson Valley/New York

Breakneck Ridge in the Hudson Valley is by far the most strenuous hike I’ve ever done. It is only a 3.7 mile loop according to (Hike the Hudson Valley)  but man is it a work out!

I do no recommend this to anyone who is afraid of heights or is not sure footed. As we hiked we saw a bunch of people without water and we also saw people with multi-day backpacks. I highly recommend you do your research and make sure you come prepared for this hike.

EPIC VISTAS EVERYWHERE

I would recommend hikers have at least a liter of water (I brought 2 and used all of it), shoes with some grip (trail running shoes at the minimum), and lots of patience.

I’ve only went up this mountain twice since living on the east coast, but each time we’ve driven by the area is packed. If you have a timeline to get up the trail, make sure you get there early in the morning (probably before 10am) if you don’t want to have issues finding parking.

BE CAREFUL FOR GOODNESS SAKES

DO NOT attempt this trail after it has rained or in the winter when it is slick. This trail does have quite a few steep drop offs and people have died while hiking it. Be safe and be smart.

With all that being said, we highly recommend this trail to someone who is looking for a great challenge with rewarding views!
