Five Great Hikes In Connecticut Volume 1

After hiking all over Connecticut, Deanna and I decided to put a short list of five great hikes in Connecticut that we think are GRRRREAT!

First I recommend on watching the main video at the top of this post, then I will go into a bit more detail on each of these hiking locations that we really enjoyed. 🙂 As mentioned in the video, these locations are listed in no particular order because we loved them all!

STEEP ROCK PRESERVE

Approximate Location:
Washington, Connecticut
Steep Rock Preserve
Features:

  • Views from Overlook
  • River running through
  • Epic Railroad Tunnel Ruins
  • Easy to Strenuous Hiking Trails

SILVER SANDS STATE PARK

  • Views of Long Island Sound
  • Marshy Area to Hike
  • Amazing Sand Bridge Trail to Charles Island
  • Beautiful Sandy Beach

PEOPLES STATE FOREST


Approximate Location:
Winsted, Connecticut
Peoples State ForestFeatures:

  • Panoramic Views of the Valley
  • Beautiful Hikes through thick forest

  • Wide Variety of Trails

KENT FALLS STATE PARK

Kent, Connecticut
Kent Falls State ParkFeatures:

  • 250 ft total of waterfall (yeah, that’s right)
  • Great open picnic area
  • Gorgeous Covered Bridge
  • Path along entire stretch of the waterfalls

MINE HILL PRESERVE

Approximate Location:
Roxbury, Connecticut
Mine Hill Preserve

Features:

  • Historic Ruins of the old mining area
  • “Bat Cages” that cover the mine chutes
  • Beautiful Wooded Hiking Trails
  • 3.5 Mile Main Loop
