Exploring Wahconah Falls State Park in Massachusetts
Wahconah Falls State Park is small but so incredibly beautiful! Thanks for stopping by and checking out this post! All of the state parks we visited in Massachusetts recently were quite a surprise. We really just picked an area of the state and decided that is where we were going to explore.
We started googling different state parks and came up with a list of places we could visit while exploring the area. Wahconah Falls State Park did not disappoint at all!
LET THE HIKE BEGIN
When we first started to hike from the parking lot it was absolutely beautiful with the mix of fall foliage and the evergreen trees sporadically placed along the “half mile” hiking path to the falls.
I put the “half mile” in quotes because I’m pretty sure it was an eighth of a mile to a quarter of a mile max. Who knows though, maybe we were having so much fun soaking in the nearby views that the distance flew by quickly! 😉
INCREDIBLE WATERFALLS!
It really didn’t take long at all though to notice the falls down the trail. Even on the wet a dreary afternoon, the falls were beautiful and stunning. So beautiful and stunning that I couldn’t figure out which picture of Deanna’s to use in this blog post, so here you go…a ton of freaking photos!
NATURE’S BEAUTY
While Deanna was working away getting her 1000 pictures of the falls, I hung out with the GoPro and took a bunch of videos of the falls. It is awesome when all you have to do is stand and admire nature’s beauty while it does all the work for you!
Pretty sure I am getting to the point where I could happily be a professional videographer. Ok, I suppose I will need to practice a bit more before I go that far. Maybe upgrade equipment a bit too! 🙂
GOING A LITTLE OFF THE BEATEN PATH
Although there isn’t a designated path going along the creek/brook/stream, Deanna and I decided to hike up the hill a ways to see if there was more to be seen. We are so glad we did. Disclaimer, be very careful on the rocks around this area because they are quite slick! We only chose paths that looked absolutely safe and did not put us in any danger.
FALL FOLIAGE!
Oh, and did I mention all this beauty was magnified by the fact we were hiking in autumn…in the northeast where trees are quite abundant? Yea, this place was basically how I imagine heaven to be like…or at least for outdoorsy folk like ourselves.
HAVING TOO MUCH FUN
After hiking up just a little ways we came across even more falls! We probably only hiked an extra mile along the brook exploring the different views this park had to offer. We definitely weren’t the first to explore that area because we did find the occasional beer can and remnants of a campfire, however I think you kind of make your own trails at this park.
EASY TO MODERATE HIKING
Although these weren’t blazed trails, I would say the hiking in the area is somewhere between easy to moderate depending on where you go. The main trail down to the falls is fairly easy with some slight elevation gain on your back up the trail.
If you head up the side of the hill along the brook, I would say that can be a bit moderate depending on the paths you take. We pretty much hugged the edge of the brook for the most part where it was safe to do so. You won’t be disappointed if you did a little hiking off trail, just don’t get lost. 🙂
