Exploring Kohler Park Dunes in Sheboygan, Wisconsin
Howdy folks!
While exploring Kohler Park Dunes in Sheboygan, Wisconsin we were making our last trip near Lake Michigan for the planned feature. This was a perfect way to end our journey around the great lakes as this area was incredibly beautiful!

BEAUTIFUL
When we first arrived at Kohler Park Dunes State Natural Area we weren’t quite sure what to expect besides obviously some dunes and hopefully a large Lake Michigan. It was a bit expensive getting in at $11 per vehicle (2018 price for out of staters) and we weren’t expecting to spend all day there, so we were very reserved at first.
THOSE COLORS.
Once we got a glimpse of the landscape however, we knew we had made the right choice for this particular adventure. This was in the late August/early September time-frame so if you are reading this blog post right after I published it…I highly doubt the beautiful greenery remains in the cooler seasons.
Although the trails are dog friendly (our greyhound Blaze is featured above), not all the trails allow dogs on them. I’m not 100% sure why they only chose specific trails as the terrain is fairly similar throughout the park. We originally tried to hop on a short loop since it was a fairly warm day so Blaze wouldn’t over heat, but ended up turning the hike into a down and back.
NOT A TON OF HIKING.
As you can see by the trail map, there really isn’t a ton of hiking to be had at this particular park, but the landscape that it does offer along with a day along the beach would get you your $11 worth. Since Blaze was a little too hot, we did take a little detour to the beach to have Blaze walk along the shore.
We didn’t get any photos of the beach/lake itself, but there is as I said a dog friendly beach area where the pups can take a walk with you. This dog friendly beach area is located just behind the nature center and north of that I believe. There are plenty of places to set up a home base and soak in the sun or just enjoy these beautiful hiking trails.
