Camping at Catskill Adventure Resort in Connecticut
Catskill Adventure Resort is a fairly suitable name for this RV park I would say. There are quite a few places to go on an adventure in the surrounding area and there is plenty to do in the park itself, if you like that sorta thing.
Deanna and I usually use each campground more as a base camp to the surrounding hiking/kayaking opportunities rather than focusing on the events in the RV park itself. However, the park was packed full of amenities as well as plenty of open spots for full-hookups.
FULL-HOOKUPS ARE NICE.
This was our first campground with truly “full-hookups” including 30 amp electric, water, and sewage. Our first two campgrounds (Cozy Hills, and White Pines Campground) both had electric, water, and an interesting setup for gray water drainage.
The cost has been similar across all the campgrounds we have stayed at thus far (around $40-$50 a night) and all have been fairly expensive. We are hoping to test the boon docking waters out here soon and see how our current setup does.
GRASSY AREA PARKING
It appears that the main area for non-seasonal camping spots was in an open grass area. My only complaint of that area is that it is right next to the road…and although it is about 30mph speed limit, car noise can be annoying.
I suppose however that we are paying for the amenities (that we haven’t really used thus far) rather than seclusion in the wilderness that we are searching for.
AMENITIES
With that being said, Deanna and I took Blaze on a walk around most of the campground and it seemed fairly quiet and peaceful. One of the nights they had a Billy Joel impersonator that came in to rock out to some oldies but goodies. We didn’t go to the pavilion to hear him play, but we heard him just fine from our campsite.
So just be aware, this park can be a really cool experience, but it depends what you are looking for in a campground. If you are looking for a secluded spot in the wilderness with nothing but the crickets and frogs chirping in the background, this might not be for you. If you are taking your kids out camping and want to ease them into the lifestyle, this might be a good intro to camping. 🙂
THINGS TO DO
We had a great time at this RV park mainly because everyone around us was nice and respectable. I’m sure that plays a really big part on the overall experience at different campgrounds. It was a great location to go check out Minnewaska State Park as well as Sam’s Point (both of which you will be able to find videos on our blog/YouTube channel).
As soon as we got into the park they handed us a couple booklets showing events in the local area as well as maps to different attractions. These did become helpful as the cell signal (we have Verizon) was about 1 bar of 4G to non-existent. I guess that is just one more reason to buy a cell booster to use for emergencies.
