From the moment we paid for our weekly pass at the South Gate of Yosemite National Park to when we started around that last corner before entering the tunnel, I was not nearly prepared to absorb what nature had waiting straight ahead. The brightness of the day quickly darkens as we enter the tunnel passing under literally a GIANT mountain. My eyes are struggling to adjust to the darkness within the dimly lit passage. As we approach the finale of this great test of patience, I can’t help but feel the excitement of this prolonged journey finally coming to light.
We roll our way through the epic transition and at first it is hard to make out anything as my eyes slowly begin to focus. Then the wow factor hits in and there just aren’t words to describe the beauty that lies in front of us. We pull over at the first parking spot and immediately have to remove that imperfect piece of glass separating us from God’s masterpiece. This has got to be what heaven looks like.
We actually encountered this beauty sort of by accident as we were driving into the park. Our goal originally for this day was to visit Vernal Fall on the Mist Trail. However, distracted by Yosemite’s beauty, there was really no reason in our minds to skip the other attractions on the way.
I am so glad we stopped to gaze our eyes on this amazing waterfall. From the road it was spectacular but just a .4 mile hike down some evenly paved trails and you get the full experience. The Mist Trail isn’t the only area of the park I recommend taking a rain jacket with you. Bridalveil Fall may just be a creek at the top of the mountain, but gravity has a way of speeding things up when falling 617 feet. Don’t be surprised to get a refreshing mist shower when getting up close and personal to Bridalveil Fall.
