Adventuring Around Peoria Illinois
Howdy Folks!
On this adventure we explore through Jubilee College State Park, well try to at least. Then we hop back in the truck and drive to a city park called Detweiller Park in Peoria, Illinois. Both of these places offer some great hiking and if you time it right, a nice place to get the parks to yourselves.
Since we didn’t really get to hike around Jubilee College State Park, I am just focusing on Detweiller Park in this post. Neither of these places really have an epic view of the surrounding area because, well, lack of elevation. There are some short elevation gains at Detweiller Park, but it is so wooded there that all you really see are the trees and vegetation around you.
Don’t be fooled by the size of Detweiller Park though, it has plenty to do and even connects to a much longer 5 mile trail loop called Illinois River Bluff Trail. In addition to the trails, this park has a great open area to host many sports as well as being very close to nearby River City Raceway.
After we got done exploring the park, we ended up meeting up with some friends from college at a nice restaurant called Granite City Food & Brewery. They have some decent burgers and I had a tasty flight of beers in front of me. My friends said they had a couple bad experiences there, but they seemed to be with it while we were visiting. Guess we are just good luck charms! 🙂
